I have been an avid photographer since college. Before I headed off, my Dad gave me his old camera, a 35mm Leica viewfinder he had picked up in the Air Force in the 1950s. This started my passion for photography.

Later, during my 4 years in the Navy, I spent many hours with my first 35mm SLR, a Vivitar I purchased while in boot camp. Once I was assigned to my ship, the USS Spruance, DD-963, the many hours with my ever-present camera resulted in my becoming the unofficial ship's photographer.

As I got close to my discharge from the Navy, I saved for a good 35mm SLR, and I purchased my first serious camera, an Olympus OM-2 with a 50mm f/1.4 in 1978. I shot so many frames with this workhorse that eventually the auto exposure died. This was rather fortuitous, forcing me to shoot in manual which resulted in a better understanding of exposure, and light.

I tried my hand in wedding photography and did pretty well. But being good at something doesn't always bring enjoyment.

I love to be out in nature with my camera. I endeavor to bring this love into each image I capture.

My current equipment: Nikon D-850, Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8, Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 G2, Nikon 50mm f/1.4, Nikon 70-200mm f/4,  Nikon 200-500mm f/ 5.6, Nikon 1.4x teleconverter, RRS BH-55 ballhead, Gitzo GT3530LS carbon fiber tripod, B+W high transmittance  CPL's in 82 and 95mm,  and multiple ND filters.

Some time ago I read a quote by Joseph Campbell: "Follow your bliss". This describes the pursuit of my photographic prowess.
